What is a Micro-credential?

Micro-credentials are short, skills-focused courses designed to help you build job-ready knowledge fast. Each one is packed with practical, industry-relevant content and includes activities and assessments to demonstrate your learning.

When you complete a micro-credential, you’ll receive a SkillX Professional Certificate that showcases your skills and can be used as evidence of competence in the workplace.

You can complete a single micro-credential or stack multiple courses to customise your learning journey—building the right skills, in the right order, for your goals. Some micro-credentials may also contribute to credit towards future vocational or higher education study, depending on the course and provider.

What’s included in my subscription?

Your subscription unlocks unlimited access to a library of micro-credentials, with features tailored to your plan:

  • Essentials Plan: Self-paced learning with engaging resources and SkillX Professional Certificates of online learning.
  • Premium Plan: Everything in Essentials plus AI support, trainer forums, webinars, and networking groups.

You can view or upgrade your plan at any time to unlock additional benefits. If you want to gain a formal Accredited Statement of Attainment you need to complete accredited assessment, to do that you need to enrol in a related Professional Accredited course (pay-per-course), where available.

Are there any entry requirements?

No entry requirements—just a curious mind and the motivation to learn. You can start exploring and building skills straight away, with no prior study or qualifications needed.

How are the courses delivered?

Micro-credentials are delivered 100% online and self-paced, so you can learn wherever and whenever it suits you.

You will have access to the learning library for as long as your subscription or course access remains active.

What’s the estimated time commitment for each Micro-credential?

Most micro-credentials take approximately 40–60 hours to complete, depending on the course, your existing knowledge and your study pace. Because they’re 100% self-paced, you can spread this out over weeks or months, depending on your schedule and learning style.

How are assessments structured?

Assessments vary by course, but typically include a blend of:

  • Quizzes to check your knowledge
  • Assignments to apply what you have learned

What’s the difference between a SkillX Professional Certificate and an Accredited Certification?

A SkillX Professional Certificate is issued when you complete a micro-credential through your subscription. It recognises your participation, progress and skill development within the course.

An Accredited Certification (Statement of Attainment) is an Australian Nationally Recognised credential is issued when you successfully complete formal assessments by either upgrading to a pay-per-accredited certification or enrolling in the Professional course. This Australian Nationally Recognised credential can support your career advancement, meet compliance requirements, or count towards future study pathways.

How do I share or verify my SkillX Professional Certificate?

Your SkillX Professional Certificate includes your name, course title and completion date.

You can:

  • download it as a PDF
  • add it to your LinkedIn profile or share it anywhere digitally
  • rint a copy for your records or employer

Are SkillX micro-credentials recognised by employers?

All courses are designed in consultation with industry and align with real workplace needs. Many are part of Australian Nationally Accredited Training Packages, and you may earn formal Statements of Attainment (Australian Nationally Recognised as per Australian Qualification Framework) for eligible courses.

Can micro-credentials count toward further study?

Yes! Some micro-credentials may be eligible for credit or recognition in future qualifications if you complete a formal assessment from the Professional plan. This depends on the course and provider.

How do I know if I’m ready for online study?

How do I create an account?

No need to sign up separately—your account is created automatically when you complete your first order. Just follow the checkout steps, and we’ll send your login details by email.

How do I enrol in a course or subscription?

It’s quick and easy:

  1. Click Add to Cart for any course or subscription plan.
  2. Go to your cart and select Proceed to Checkout.
  3. If it’s your first time, fill in your details and click Place Order—we’ll create your account and give you instant access.

When can I start my course?

Immediately! Once your checkout is complete, you’ll get a confirmation email with access details. Log in to SkillX Online Portal to access your courses.

How do I access my course?

Simply log in to SkillX Online Portal to begin.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes—you're in control. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Your access will remain active until the end of your current billing period, and there are no cancellation fees.

Can I access learning materials after my subscription ends?

You get access only while your plan is active.

Can I upgrade my plan later?

Absolutely. You can upgrade from Essentials to Premium, or from Premium to the Professional Plan whenever you’re ready. Upgrading gives you access to more features like live webinars, trainer support, and accredited assessments.

How do I switch between subscription plans?

Upgrading or downgrading is easy:

  1. Log in to your account
  2. Visit Account Settings → Subscription
  3. Choose your new plan (Essentials, Premium, or Professional) and confirm. Changes apply immediately, and you’ll be billed at the new rate next renewal cycle.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings.

  • Monthly Plans: You won’t be charged again, but access continues until the end of your current billing period.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

How do I cancel and request a refund?

To cancel a subscription or course and request a refund:

  1. Log in to your account and go to your settings or subscription page.
  2. Select the cancellation option for your current plan or course.
  3. Contact our team at online.support@skillx.edu.au to submit a refund request, including your full name and order number.

Refunds will only be issued to the original payment method, and all requests are reviewed in line with SkillX/SSC’s Refund Policy.

Is this qualification recognised in Australia?

Yes. SSC is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 45279), and all accredited courses are:

What is a Professional course?

A professional course is an accredited learning delivered by South Sydney College (SSC) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 45279) based in Sydney, Australia. The professional course leads to nationally recognised outcomes in Australia. These courses are part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and are formally assessed to ensure competency.

Upon successful completion, learners may receive a Statement of Attainment for individual units or a full Qualification—credentials that are recognised across Australia and valued by employers, industry, and education providers.

Professional courses are ideal for those seeking formal recognition of their skills to support employment, meet compliance requirements, or progress into further study.

Are Professional-Accredited courses self-paced?

Professional courses are delivered online and are self-paced learning. However, formal assessment, trainer support, submission deadlines and course access periods may apply.

Refer to the course page, learner handbook and enrolment information for details about course duration, access period, assessment requirements and support arrangements.

How are assessments structured and assessed?

Professional courses include a formal assessment in line with AQF (Australian Qualification Framework) standards, often via a proctored or trainer-reviewed submission. Assessment includes knowledge questions and workplace-style practical assessment tasks.

A qualified assessor will review your evidence against the assessment requirements and provide an outcome of competent or not yet competent, where applicable. If more evidence is required, you may be asked to revise or resubmit your work in line with the course rules.

What happens if I don’t pass an assessment?

You will:

  • Receive assessment feedback from the trainer
  • Be given opportunity to resubmit (2 attempts) additional attempt may incur additional fees.

Are there exams?

Not traditional exams. Assessments include:

  • Practical tasks
  • Projects
  • Knowledge-based questions

Can international students enrol in these courses?

  • Online courses are not offered to the international students
  • Check ssc.edu.au for the courses offered to the international students

Can I use my micro-credential learning as evidence for an accredited assessment?

Your micro-credential learning may help prepare you for a formal assessment, but completing a micro-credential does not automatically guarantee an accredited outcome.

To receive Australian nationally recognised certification, you must enrol in the relevant Professional course and complete the required formal assessments.

What is the difference between a unit and a full qualification?

  • Unit (Statement of Attainment): Skill in a specific area
  • Full Qualification: Complete program (e.g. Diploma) covering multiple units

How do I enrol in a Professional Accredited course?

It’s quick and easy:
